View your PiAware receiver on iPhone, iPad & Apple TV

If you feed FlightAware from a Raspberry Pi, you already own everything Overhead 1090 needs. PiAware's decoder (dump1090-fa) publishes every aircraft your antenna hears on your local network. SkyAware shows that feed in a browser tab; Overhead 1090 turns the same feed into a native app on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

What you need

Nothing on the Pi changes. The app reads the JSON feed your receiver already serves; it never writes to your receiver or touches your FlightAware feed.

Connect in about a minute

  1. Open Overhead 1090 and choose Connect a receiver.
  2. Enter your Pi's address — the same one you use for SkyAware, such as 192.168.1.20. On Apple TV the app can also discover receivers on the network automatically.
  3. The app probes the address, finds the data feed, and reads the receiver's location from the receiver itself (or you can set it manually).

That's it. The map centers on your antenna with range rings, type-coded aircraft icons, and one-tap filters for military, low-altitude, and on-ground traffic.

Beyond the live map

Because the app keeps its own history, you get things a browser map can't give you: a logbook of every airframe you've received, daily reports of traffic over your house, and a sightings feed that flags emergency squawks, military aircraft, and rare types as they happen.

More than one receiver?

Add each one. Overhead 1090 handles multiple sites — watch the feeder at a second home or a remote site from wherever you are on the network, and switch between them in a tap.

Private by design

Aircraft data never leaves your network. The app has no cloud component, no account, and no analytics; its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. See the privacy policy.
